Run for the Son 2019

Last Saturday was a perfect day for the 13th Annual Run for the Son. We couldn’t have asked for a better race day! Despite the forecasted storms, we had 120 participate in the 5k or Fun Run and, with Phantom runners added, we had over 240 runners register for this year’s 5k!

Alex Stolz finished with a time of 16:25.9 to take home the medal for Overall Male Winner. Amber David took home the medal for Overall Female Winner, Tracy Glover took home the medal for Masters Class Female and Tommy Jones was named Masters Class Male winner. We handed out 67 medals to runners who placed 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in their age group in  addition to the medals and prizes that were awarded to our top four runners. This year’s Cup of Legends trophy for the team with the most registered runners went to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church who had an outstanding 100 registered runners. When asked about the church’s win, team organizer Jan Allen had this to say,

“I am overwhelmed by the generosity of PGBC’s Run for the Son team. Our phantom runners, sponsors for our youth group’s participants, and donors demonstrate how devoted our members are in helping the CLC reach and teach the youth in Gilmer county about God. PGBC, you rock! I am throwing down the gauntlet for next year. I want to challenge the other churches and organizations in the county to get a team together and up the competition!”

The Cup of Champions trophy for the team with the most active day-of participants went to Run for the Son newcomers PDQ Manufacturing who showed up with an awesome twenty one runners. This was PDQ’s first year participating as a team. Congratulations to all of our winners and placers!

Run for the Son would not be possible without the diligent work of our board and volunteers or the incredible support of our race sponsors. Without the support of our amazing community, we would not be able to put on events like Run for the Son or be able to continue ministering to the students of Gilmer County. To each and every one of you who had a hand in making Run for the Son 2019 possible, thank you. We are only able to continue our ministry because of you!
